Our community movement

Empowering the community

The Hamilton Municipal Pools closed in late 2012 due to lack of maintenance by Hamilton City Council. Swim In The City - Wai Kaukau o Kirikiriroa is dedicated to preserving this historic city asset as an outdoor heated all-year swimming venue in the heart of the city.
This beautiful image by Mark Wassung of Design Engine was created in 2012 to show one vision of what the Munies could look like.

Community participation

Everyone counts

Since Hamilton City Council first advised of its intention to close the Municipal Pools, Swim In The City (formerly known as Sink Or Swim) has campaigned tirelessly for the site to be revamped as a swimming venue for the next 100 years. Our success is driven by the hearts, minds, and souls of our community. Come and join us.

Advocacy

Speaking up for the swimmers of the city - all ages, from toddlers to centenarians, from dabblers to international athletes.

Advocacy is an essential pillar of our Community Movement. There is strength in numbers, and we work to inform and encourage others to take a stand for what they believe in. Want to learn more?
